Helping others
As a parish community, we are called to serve Our Lord not only in prayer and worship, but also in charity, compassion and practical care for those in need.
This page sets out some of the ways in which our parish seeks to help others, both within our own community and beyond it.
CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development)
CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales. Through CAFOD, parishes support emergency relief, long-term development, and work for justice in communities affected by poverty, conflict and hardship.
Our parish supports CAFOD through prayer, awareness and collections during the year, including the CAFOD Lent Appeal.
Please see the parish newsletter for current appeals and collection dates.
Mary’s Meals
Mary’s Meals is a charity which provides school meals for children in some of the world’s poorest communities. By providing a daily meal in a place of education, Mary’s Meals helps children to attend school and supports families facing great hardship.
Many parishioners value this work for its simple and direct focus on children in need.
Please see the parish newsletter for any current collections, fundraising activities or notices relating to Mary’s Meals.
Support within our parish community
Charity also begins close to home. Our parish seeks to support those in need locally through pastoral care and practical help.
If you, or someone known to you, is unwell, isolated, in difficulty, or in need of support, please contact the parish Welfare Group. Current contact details are given in the parish newsletter.
We encourage parishioners to let us know when someone may need help, so that support can be offered where possible.
Prayer support for those in need
Helping others includes remembering them in prayer.
The parish Prayer Group supports intentions shared by parishioners, and members pray for the same intention on the same day. If you would like prayers for yourself, a family member, or another intention, please use the parish contact details or the contact route given in the newsletter.
Serving others through parish life
Much service is offered through the ordinary life of the parish. Parishioners support one another and the wider community by volunteering in practical ministries and acts of service, including:
-
Prayer support
-
Tea and coffee ministry
-
Church cleaning
-
Flower decoration
-
Lay reading
If you would like to help in any of these ways, please speak to Fr Barry or ask after Mass.
